CDC Eviction Moratorium

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued an emergency order stopping landlords from evicting covered tenants, beginning when the order is published (expected to be September 4), and running through December 31, 2020. 

The WRA created a document that includes frequently asked questions about the new eviction order.

DSPS Update

The Hill Farms State Office Building and all DSPS walk-up counters are closed to the public until further notice. Customers are encouraged to submit forms, applications and requests online.

Meetings of boards, councils and committees are meeting as deemed necessary. The public may connect to these meetings remotely. Find instructions by visiting the A-Z Boards & Councils list. Click on the “Meetings Page" link corresponding to the meeting you wish to attend. Connection information will be available no less than 24 hours prior to the meeting.

Remote Notary Update

While a great many things can be accomplished electronically in a real estate transaction, there are still a few documents under Wisconsin law that require notarization to occur in person. However, with social distancing concerns relating to COVID-19, there has been an increase of questions and concerns from people not wanting to go into an office to sign certain documents.

Recent legislation regarding Remote Online Notarization (RON) was signed by Gov. Tony Evers in early March and was not effective until May 1, 2020. RON allows for remote or e-notarization in Wisconsin, which essentially allows consumers to have certain documents notarized remotely, including deeds and mortgage documents, rather than in person.
