Along with the rest of the world, the Wisconsin legislature is facing an unprecedented situation with curtailing the spread of the coronavirus. While the WRA’s legislative agenda was ready to come to a close in conjunction with the end of the Wisconsin legislative session scheduled for April, both have now been postponed amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Background
The WRA created a list of five legislative priorities to tackle during the 2019-20 legislative session. These priorities affect property rights, transaction documents and housing regulations and, if passed, will ultimately create a healthier real estate climate across Wisconsin.
What’s in play
- AB 551/SB 501: Restore the right to place a pier on flowages.
- AB 596/SB 549: Update disclosure reports.
- AB 655/SB 599: Improve home inspection reports.
- AB 691/SB 624: Prohibit chasing sales.
- AB 544/SB 484 and additional legislative initiatives:
Increase workforce housing supply.
Legislation status
These proposals were working their way through the legislative process prior to the legislature’s announcement that it suspended its floor period due to the coronavirus. At press time, the most recent news projects a potential return of the legislative session later in spring.
