In 2010, there was a concerted effort by the city of Milwaukee and some appraisers to severely limit or prohibit REALTOR® opinions of value. Fortunately, this legislation was defeated.

Background

  • This legislation was designed to prevent real estate licensees from giving broker price opinions (BPOs), or other opinions of value unless they had an appraiser’s license.
  • This legislation would significantly increase the cost to your clients and hurt your business.
  • Because of your grassroots efforts, consumers today can choose to hire an appraiser, or real estate licensee to provide them with an opinion on the value of their property.

What's in play

In the Capitol, bad ideas have a way of returning in the form of new legislation. The WRA will be watching.

Bill status

Defeated.
