Message from the Chair

 Joe Horning  |    January 09, 2023
Chair

With the new year upon us, I am filled with optimism and excitement as we launch into 2023. As I reflect on 2022, our industry was frequently in the headlines. Whether addressing inventory shortages, booming home sales numbers, increased home values or rising interest rates, our industry was top of mind for many. This opportunity allowed us to have important conversations with consumers about the unmatched value you as REALTORS® provide during and even beyond the transaction. We are planning an event to share our REALTOR® message and true value with all Wisconsinites in the months to come.

While attending the National Association of REALTORS® Conference in Orlando in November, author and speaker Jay Shetty said something that resonated with me. He shared, “Fear comes from a lack of knowledge. Accelerate your learning, eliminate your fear.” We all have an opportunity to share our expertise and knowledge about the benefits of homeownership and strip away the media hype. There are excellent opportunities for all of us to continue to learn and grow, and I am committed to creating new and more effective ways to educate consumers, the media and policymakers about the importance of homeownership and the value that we as REALTORS® bring to the transaction.

In addition to education, the WRA continues to work and support our industry by tackling issues such as:

  • Regulatory reform to increase the supply and affordability of housing.
  • New tax credits and infrastructure financing tools to lower housing development costs.
  • Improving Wisconsin’s tax climate to attract businesses and make homeownership more attainable.
  • Reducing liability for REALTORS® by creating safe harbors from litigation.

We are fortunate to have the dedication and professionalism of the entire WRA team that continues to advocate tirelessly for our industry. Coming out of our strategic planning, we are excited to launch new initiatives that will propel the WRA in years to come.

On behalf of the leadership team, including chair-elect Mary Jo Bowe, treasurer Chris DeVincentis and immediate past chair Brad Lois, we are humbled with your trust and support to work on your behalf in 2023. May you have a year filled with optimism and opportunity.

Thank you!
Joe Horning, 2023 WRA Chairman of the Board
