On April 24, over 300 REALTORS® from across Wisconsin converged on the state Capitol in Madison for REALTOR® & Government Day to lobby their state lawmakers on the following proposed legislation that could have a direct impact on their clients, their businesses and their communities:
- A proposed 2 percent statewide property tax increase that would make it more expensive to own a home or operate a business in Wisconsin.
- A new savings account that would make it easier for first-time homebuyers to own a home.
- An effort to modernize the digital interface that REALTORS® have with the Department of Safety and Professional Services for license renewal, reporting of continuing education and other important licensing matters.
- A proposal that would protect the ability of Wisconsin homeowners to have home surveillance systems without disclosing this information to the public or prospective buyers.
Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and Assembly Minority Leader Gordon Hintz participated in a panel discussion during REALTOR® & Government Day.
Throughout the 2019-20 legislative session, the WRA will keep you informed on the progress of these four pieces of legislation. Thank you to all the REALTORS® who attended this year’s REALTOR® & Government Day event. Mark your calendar for next year’s REALTOR® & Government Day on February 12, 2020.
