The WRA and allied landlord organizations will spearhead the effort to pass legislation that balances the needs and rights of both landlords and tenants.

What's in play

Proposal: Legislation that includes multiple landlord/tenant issues sets the stage for a vote in the legislature in January 2016.
Introduced by: Sen. Frank Lasee (R—DePere) and Rep. Robert Brooks (R—Saukville)

Background

  • Promote greater safety and security for all renters by modifying the eviction process for criminal activity.
  • Require a 14-day notice prior to local government meetings where housing issues are on the agenda.
  • Allow landlords to opt for a five-day right-to-cure option for non-rent breaches with month-to-month tenancies.
  • Require that any licensing or inspection ordinance must apply to all rental property owners, including owner-occupied rentals.
